Two brothers, Andreas and Costas Pittas, founded Pittas Dairy Industries Ltd in 1939 which has grown into the leading manufacturer of dairy products in Cyprus. Two generations of confident and innovative expansion has made Pittas a leader in the dairy industry with exports all over the world. We were the first company in Cyprus to import modern equipment and the first to use pasteurization in the production methods for traditional Cypriot dairy products such as Halloumi, Feta, Kashkaval Cheese and Yogurt.
Today the company employs over 200 people and uses the most modern manufacturing processes while still utilizing the skill and craftsmanship of traditional cheese makers. Pittas Dairy has always been proud to be part of the Cyprus kitchen and a respected brand leader through its commitment to superior product and customer service. Our product portfolio contains nearly 100 quality dairy items which a professional, well-trained sales force distributes to as many as 2,500 outlets all over Cyprus.
Pittas cheeses are also exported to Europe, the United States, the Middle East, Australia and Japan and account for almost 50% of the total exports of Cyprus dairy products. We have received many awards for our commitment to superior product quality. In 2001 we received the Silver Award for Kefalotyri Light at the London International Cheese Competition; in 2000 the Silver Award for Halloumi® Cheese at the Somerset International Cheese Competition in the U.K; and in 1997 we received two additional awards for Halloumi® and Halloumi® Light at the Cheese and Dairy Competition in London.
Pittas Dairy Industries was certified with the ISO 9002 certification since 1997 and we have incorporated a total internal control (HACCP) system in our production. The operations of the company were moved in early 1999 into a new state-of-the-art facility. Unfortunately, only a few weeks later a fire destroyed the factory. Production, however, did not cease. All cheese-making operations were moved back to the old factory that was completely renovated and passed European Union Health Inspection in December 2000 along with our yogurt factory. Work on rebuilding the destroyed factory will start in late 2002.
